WEST PALM BEACH, Florida – June 14, 2018
More than 75 people attended the groundbreaking celebration for the CARP Men’s 12 Step home at 1626 Okeechobee Road in West Palm Beach yesterday.
At the event, Kelly V. Landers, President of the Board of Directors, thanked sponsors including Tiffany & Co. and Neiman Marcus for their commitment to the CARP capital campaign. Lavinia Baker, member of the Board of Directors, led the prayer. Food was provided by Rocco’s Tacos.
The Board of Directors of CARP (Comprehensive Alcoholism Rehabilitation Programs), Inc. announced city approval of its plans to build a women’s 12 Step home, named Serenity, in West Palm Beach in January. The women’s home is expected to be open within seven months to one year.
CARP was founded in 1972 with a vision to offer affordable housing recovery programs to homeless and indigent Palm Beach County residents suffering from alcoholism and addiction. This vision continues today, as CARP builds gender-specific 12-Step homes to provide a stable, supportive environment that utilizes a peer-to-peer 12-step recovery model proven to be effective against addiction.
CARP’s goal is to help break the cycle of hopeless addiction, dependency, and resulting homelessness among less fortunate Palm Beach County residents. For many, CARP is an individual’s last hope, after insurance benefits have been depleted or family members have given up hope.
CARP’s goal is to become self-funded. As money is spent on operations, leadership intends to replenish such funds — to honor past donors while securing CARP’s future as a self-sustaining enterprise. CARP is currently raising funds to build the residences and to fund its first year of operating expenses.
Kelly V. Landers, Esq., Board President, expressed his enthusiasm:
“CARP is returning to its beginning, serving the alcoholic and drug addicted underserved, with the initial projects of the men and women’s 12-step homes. We are thankful for the community support demonstrated today, and ask all who have supported CARP in the past, and all who wish to do so in the future, to join us!”
