CARP Annual Spring Luncheon Unites Community

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida – February 17, 2024

Supporters and friends of CARP gathered together at the Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach Saturday, for the CARP Annual Spring Luncheon. This year’s event drew even more guests than any other previous Spring Luncheon event.

Following a reception in the Living Room, where supporters of CARP mingled with guest speaker Meredith Baxter, board members, and long-term CARP advocates, and guests moved upstairs to the Royal Poinciana Ballroom at noon for the luncheon, where they were welcomed by Chairpersons Park Miller and Patty Dean. The opening remarks was presented by State Attorney Dave Aronberg, who spoke about how organizations like CARP are critical to resolving the problems presented by the opioid crisis.

Once again, the highlight of this event was Abra Annes, introducing the men and women—both current residents and alumni—to join her on stage alongside Program Directors Dennis Langbein and Carolyn Emmons. John Brentley, a CARP Alumni, delivered his story with raw emotion and unwavering passion. Following the impactful testimonial, Ms. Annes took the reins of the fundraising effort. She emphasized CARP’s vital mission of serving the underserved afflicted by addiction, highlighting the organization’s commitment to providing support at no cost to its residents.

Guest Speaker Meredith Baxter captivated the room with her candid and powerful narrative, sharing her lifelong struggle with spousal abuse and the challenges of long-term alcoholism. Through her courageous storytelling, she illuminated her journey towards self-discovery and authenticity. Baxter’s message not only resonated deeply with the audience but also served to raise awareness about the significance of CARP’s mission in providing support and healing for those battling addiction.

The Board of Directors of CARP is thankful for the support from sponsors including Park Miller and Patty Dean, Tiffany & Co, Stacy Mandel and Keith Palagye, as well as support from foundations including the Luebke Family Foundation, J.M. Rubin Foundation, Scaife Family Foundation, and the Cathleen McFarlane Foundation.

Contributions will continue to support the development and operation of CARP Men’s and Women’s programs. CARP’s vision includes gender-specific 12-Step Homes for men and women that support supervised, abstinence-based recovery and offer hope to Palm Beach County’s economically vulnerable.

Supporters and friends of CARP gathered together at the Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach Saturday, for the CARP Annual Spring Luncheon. This year’s event drew even more guests than any other previous spring luncheon event.

Following a reception in the Living Room, where supporters of CARP mingled with guest speaker Tom Arnold, board members, and long-term CARP advocates, guests moved upstairs to the Royal Poinciana Ballroom at noon for the luncheon, where they were welcomed by Chairpersons Carl and Jeanne Nicola. Ms. Annes then led the fundraising charge with an enthusiastic appeal, stating that “CARP serves the alcoholic and drug-addicted underserved, at no cost to our residents. We ask all who have supported CARP in the past, and all who wish to do so in the future, to join us!”

Guest Speaker Tom Arnold engaged the room by speaking honestly on his lifelong battle with personal demons and near-fatal addiction – and his journey to discover his authentic self. His message raised awareness of the importance of CARP’s mission.
